As of August 2022, inmates at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility in New York state are being subjected to excessive heat as well as ongoing harassment, intimidation, and religious discrimination.
Sister Joy Powell has recently reported the following:
*A disciplinary hearing based on false allegations
*Harassment, intimidation, and retaliation from correctional officers – The same officers who should be trained in trauma-informed care
*Excessive searching and confiscation of her personal property, including commissary and packages – Please note that Joy is a diabetic
*Indoor temperatures greater than 100°F – Meanwhile Joy’s fan was also confiscated
