Joy wrote this amidst the Coronavirus pandemic during which she contracted the illness as well. Because Joy is diabetic, she is more susceptible to serious health complications from the virus, but luckily she seems to have recovered unlike some of her peers.
Roses are red, violets are blue…
I was shocked and devastated when I heard about
My former peer, Darlene aka Lu Lu…
I lived with her in Bedford Hills C.F.
OMG, tell me it ain’t so…
She contracted COVID-19, a death penalty
She should have been home…
Ole Rona crept us and now it roams…
Cares nothing about bars and barbed wire fences…
The name is COVID-19, not to mention.
COVID cases climbing, new outbreaks every day,
Prison Infirmary is overflowed, I almost passed away…
Staff omitted the fact that they should’ve worn mask,
Gloves, and carry hand sanitizer,
Bleach to sanitize, My eyes are open,
It’s torture, I’m buried alive…
I’m broken and torn, my eyes I cry…
For Lu Lu, she was ‘punished and didn’t survive!’
COVID has swept through the prison like a
Speeding locomotive train…
We’re consumed with agitation, hysteria
And confusion, it pains…
It’s creeped us with such an intrusion…
Inmates, C.O.s, Doctors and Cooks are testing
Positive, and dying. It’s not an illusion…
Social distancing and quarantines….
With only 15% bleach and water to clean…
No widespread testing, they cough and sneeze…
We didn’t sign up for this, are they kidding me??
Wrongly convicted in Bedford Hills…
The “HOT SPOT for COVID-19”…
Treated as nonessentials, the virus has upended our lives…
Wreaking havoc, its tragic I tell you no lie…
With faith and prayer we’ll win this fight…
I see you, Lu Lu, high in the sky…
R.I.P Darlene aka Lu Lu
